Project: Conversion of an embassy
Location: Berlin-Pankow
Client: Private
Surface: 300 m2
Phase: Built 2005

Conversion of the former Nigerian embassy to the GDR in East Berlin into a private mansion. That requires the preservation of the components and the details built in the sixties in the style of the late Bauhaus school. In essence the building is a plain cube with differently articulated openings in the facades sitting on a sprawling socket with terrace, driveway, stairs and low garden walls. The building is renovated from the ground up. The original room layout is conserved. The former service rooms in the basement is converted into a living area. Towards the main room in the basement the garden is layered as a ramp.

In cooperation with Jens Brinkmann.
